LOCAL FESTIVALS - SAGRAS AND FESTASDuring the summer months many villages hold a 'Festa' and their 'Sagra'. This is a great time of celebration where the whole village take part in the festivities.A Festa is a religious celebration of the local Saint. Usually a Mass is offered in the church then there is a parade through the village and the day ends with fireworks and dancing in the square. In Cocullo the saint is paraded festooned with live snakes! A Sagra can last for a whole week. Here you can sample food and wine of the area and join in with the locals having a great time every night dancing to the traditional Abruzzi music, accompanied by accordions, fiddles and drums. |

Christmas is a very special time in our local village, Cellino Attanasio, when they hold a Living Nativity on Boxing Day evening. The old centre of the village is lit by flaming torches and the locals, dressed in their ancient costumes, enact the story of the birth of baby Jesus. It is a truly moving experience.
